Destructo Swarmbots have carved a unique niche for themselves over the past four years. Their live shows consist of chaotic walls of white noise, improvised textures and battered instruments. Their recordings are delicate, at times meditative, washes of ambience constructed from countless piles of tortured sounds. Influenced heavily by 200+ needle-dropped, out of print psyche records, Clear Light is their strongest effort yet and the next step on their journey to artistic isolation.
Destructo Swarmbots is Mike Mare (Queens, NY) with a rotating line-up of auxiliary players (including James O’Brien and Bianca ala Muerte), so a Destructo Swarmbots show could be a solo act or it could as many as five people on stage with any given assortment of instrumentation. Each show is unique, with sets ranging from structured to completely improvised pieces of music.
Destructo Swarmbots has released a limited edition, self-titled tour-only CD-R, a full-length entitled 2 on Creepydogeyes (out of print), and The Mountain EP three-inch CD on Public Guilt. Upcoming projects include a twelve-inch picture disc LP/CD collaboration with Dalek and Oddatee with artwork from Paul Romano (Mastodon, Laddio Bolocko, etc.) plus collaborations with MGR (a.k.a. Mike Gallagher of Isis), Magicicada, Guilty Connector (Japan), and DJ Motiv. Destructo Swarmbots has also completed remixes for Isis, Genghis Tron, Branta, ĎX, Trephine, and Dalek.
Destructo Swarmbots has toured the United States, U.K. and Europe extensively, including tours in support of Italy's Zu and New Jersey's Dalek. Live, Destructo Swarmbots has collaborated with MGR, Darsombra, Magicicada, and German legends Faust (as part of the Faust/Dalek big-band performance at the Bad Bonn Kilbi festival in Dudingen, Switzerland). Destructo Swarmbots’ Mike Mare will be performing as part of the Dalek live band on upcoming dates. Destructo Swarmbots has also shared the stage with Guapo, The Bug, Kylie Minoise, Time of Orchids, Genghis Tron, the USAISAMONSTER, Nautical Almanac, Growing, Carlos Giffoni, and Neptune.
